Over the past few years, we’ve seen a perceptual pendulum swing from leaders opening speaking out on a number of social and political issues, to many of those same leaders now being conspicuously quiet.
In the face of increasing social divisiveness and economic uncertainty, it seems reasonable for leaders to focus more inward than speak out on issues happening outside their office ways.
But what if this silence carries a far greater cost than leaders realize?
That’s the compelling argument my guest Matthew Kohut makes in this episode of my “Leadership Biz Cafe” podcast.
Matthew is a communication strategist who has prepared CEOs, elected officials, and public figures for events from live television appearances to TED talks. He’s also the author of three books, including his latest “Speaking Out: The New Rules of Business Leadership Communication.”
I’ve invited Matthew to join me on my podcast so we could talk about these new rules for speaking out, along with a practical communication framework that can help leaders know when they should speak out, how to do it, and why it’s critical to their organization and its stakeholders.
